Fast Roads, Canal Views, and a Track Finish: The Lucan Harriers 5 Mile Returns for 2026

Fast roads, canal views, and the thrill of a track finish, the Lucan Harriers 5 Mile Road Race is back for 2026, and entries are now open! Taking place on Sunday, 13th September 2026 at 10:00am, this year’s edition brings back everything runners love about one of Dublin’s favorite late-summer races.

A Fast and Scenic Course

The race kicks off on closed roads through Lucan and Adamstown, offering a smooth, fast route supported by energetic crowds along the way. A highlight of the course is a flat, scenic mile along the beautiful Grand Canal, where runners can soak in the greenery and wildlife before heading back toward the club.

And, of course, there’s the iconic finale: sweeping onto the tartan track at Lucan Harriers for a glorious final lap in front of cheering supporters.

True Inclusivity: Open to All Abilities

Lucan Harriers takes great pride in making their annual event accessible and welcoming to the entire running community. The race welcomes participants of all levels, from international performance athletes and club champions to Fit4Life runners hitting their personal milestones.

The club warmly invites:

  • Wheelchair athletes
  • Visually impaired runners
  • Participants from the deaf community
  • Neurodivergent runners (with dedicated accommodations provided to ensure a comfortable, accessible race-day experience)

"One of the great things about road races is that you are running the exact same route and the exact same race as world champions. What other sport can say that? Our event gives the same great experience to the person who runs it in 22 minutes as to the person who runs it in an hour."

Dublin 5 Mile Championships

For competitive runners, the event once again incorporates the Dublin 5 Mile Championship, making it a marquee fixture on the regional racing calendar and blending top-tier athletic competition with vibrant grassroots community spirit.

Post-Race Celebrations: Tea, Cake… and Ice Cream!

Lucan’s legendary post-race hospitality is back in full force. Once you cross the line and collect your medal, head over to the lively marquee to celebrate your effort.

Enjoy a selection of tea, coffee, and delicious homemade cakes while recapping the race with fellow runners. And yes, the fan-favorite tradition continues: every finisher gets an ice cream cone to enjoy post-race!
