The European Athletics U18 Championships continue in Rieti, Italy today, with another busy day of competition awaiting Ireland's talented young squad as they look to build on their opening day performances.
The morning session is packed with Irish interest across the track and field. Isabelle Gaffney and Tara Rose Smith line up in the 800 metres, Arron Whelan, Daniel Downey and Elle Kate McRae contest the 400m hurdles, while Tiffany Nwaedozie and Christopher Olatunde begin their 200m campaigns. Emer Purtill also returns to continue her heptathlon, taking on the long jump and javelin before bringing the demanding seven event competition to a close later this evening with the 800 metres.
Attention then turns to the evening session, where Evelyn Kwik, Aisling Shevlin and Ethan Carr all bid for places in the 400m finals after progressing through the heats. The day concludes with Purtill's heptathlon 800 metres, bringing her two day championship campaign to its conclusion.
